My friends who are teachers in our school system asked me to run. Plus, both of my sons are in the school system, so I have a vested interest in getting politics out of the school board and get back to business.
Over the last few years the overall culture has really declined. Our teachers feel unvalued and unseen. We need to rebuild our culture to one that sees and values all of our awesome teachers.
We need to get back to the basics: setting and approving budgets; hiring and managing the superintendent; and setting policies.
Pay attention to where we're spending money; recognize that we are simply helping to care for our incredible schools. Be fiscally responsible.
